Managing multiple organizations
How hotel operators work across multiple organizations in hotel-portal without getting lost in tenant-level complexity.
Overview
One operator identity can:
- belong to multiple organizations
- create multiple organizations
That means hotel-portal should treat organization choice as part of the
operator workflow after sign-in, not as a technical prerequisite before auth.
What to expect at sign-in
After you sign in:
- if you only belong to one organization, you should enter it directly
- if you belong to multiple organizations, you should choose one
- if you do not belong to any organization yet, you should be guided into the create/onboarding path
The goal is to keep sign-in simple and avoid forcing users to remember tenant or workspace IDs.
How to think about organizations
An organization is the workspace boundary where your hotel or company supply is managed.
In practice, this might represent:
- one hotel company
- one chain group
- one operating entity
- one partner-owned workspace
Inside an organization, you can then manage:
- one or more properties
- rooms and rates
- inventory
- PMS/import setup
Best practice for operators with multiple organizations
If you work across several organizations:
- choose the organization that matches the task you are doing now
- complete onboarding or setup work inside that organization first
- switch only when you are intentionally moving to another company or portfolio
This reduces mistakes such as editing the wrong property in the wrong workspace.
What the product should make obvious
hotel-portal should clearly show:
- which organization you are currently in
- what properties belong to that organization
- the next onboarding or operational step for that organization
The UI should not make you infer this from hidden IDs or backend jargon.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not assume one email equals one organization.
- Do not enter technical identifiers during sign-in unless explicitly asked.
- Do not continue onboarding in the wrong workspace just because the screen looks familiar.
When to create a new organization
Create a new organization when you are starting a distinct company or workspace boundary, not just because you are adding another property.
If the new hotel belongs under the same company or chain workspace, it should usually be added as another property in the existing organization.
